The Ten Commandments

When God appeared to Moses at Mount Sinai, He appeared on the mountain top in the form of a burning flame that eventually lit a bush, and told Moses the Ten Commandments by which we all must live. Moses descended from Mount Sinai and delivered the Ten Commandments to his people.

Here is a list of the commandments, along with my comments next to each one. They are good spiritual and moral teachings that we can all benefit from:

1. Have no other gods before me.
We must see the oneness of all things, and not “idolize” any one limited form. All beings have their origin in Divine Spirit (OM).

2. You shall not make an idol of any kind.
Many spiritual masters say that idol worship is actually favorable for those new to spirituality. However, at a future point, the actual idol can be taken away and the student can learn to abide in Divine Spirit, beyond all limited physical forms.

3. You shall not misuse the Name of the Lord.
Let us not take the Lord’s name in vain.

4. Remember the Sabbath Day.
It is good to have one COMPLETE day of rest per week, don’t you think?

5. Honor your Father and Mother.
There is nothing wrong with being grateful for the things your parents have done for you.

6. You shall not murder.
Sorry, NRA, I am against you. Guns claim way too many lives.

7. You shall not commit adultery.
Singles should hang out with singles and married folks should hang out with married folks.

8. You shall not steal.
Fortunately, we do not take material things with us when we die. So, it is not a fallacy to say that materialism is futile. It is! So don’t steal!

9. You shall not give false testimony.
We live in a world where lying is a science - white lies, blatant lies, lies of silence. Let’s all endeavor to live with a much truth as humanly possible.

10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s possessions.
Just because your neighbor has an expensive car does not mean that he or she is happy.

OM Shanti & Namaste,
Keith
