Monism (OM) and Dualism

According to the ancient Indian sage Adi Sankaracharya, perception is the key to changing our outlook on life and achieving the final goal of self-realization. Sankaracharya was a disciple of the well-known guru “Guadapada”, who wrote the famous spiritual doctrine called “Mandukya Karika”, which is his interpretation of the classical Hindu “Mandukya Upanishad” Holy Book. This holy book asserts the oneness of all existence, that oneness is “all there is”. In other words, duality is just a temporary and relative perception based upon the external interpretation of things based upon the mind and senses, which are temporarily correct, but not eternally correct, because ultimately we are all spiritual beings.
This is why we must meditate on “OM” to experience the true oneness of all things. This has been a “reality check” for all sincere spiritual seekers over the many millenia of humanity. Indian Vedanta philosophy is not new - in fact - it is probably one of the longest lasting spiritual traditions on the planet, but has been challenged by more popular ways of thinking which have appealed to the masses, but fail to really help man achieve his or her spiritual destiny: the perception of perfect oneness.
Here is an exercise in creative visualization for you: recognize that dualism is the source of suffering, because within dualistic perception, there is a natural “tension” that exists between the two dualistic-paired concepts. But this is where we must start before we can tread the path of “OM” meditation to experience ultimate oneness. So, choose a few of the terms in the table below, and try to perceive, intuitively, the tension that exists on mere mention of these opposing concepts. Experience for yourself the tension that the world experiences daily due to these natural perceptions, that are based on the mind and body. Then, see that OM meditation can carry you beyond these, where you will experience, for yourself, the perfect oneness that is “hidden” behind these appearing opposite forms:
Hot - Cold
High - Low
Rich - Poor
Health - Sick
East - West
North - South
White - Black
In - Out
Successful - Failure
Good - Bad
Virtuous - Corrupt
Christian - Non-believer
Islamic - Infidel
Jew - Gentile
Devotee - Non-Devotee
Grace - The Law
Tolerance - Non-Tolerance
Wise - Stupid
Buddhist - Non-Buddhist
Theist - Atheist
Land - Sea
Spirit - Matter
Love - Hatred
Attraction - Repulsion
Forgiveness - Revenge
Compassion - Ignorance
Silence - Noise
As you contemplate these opposites, remember that these are relative archetypes within the mind, however the mind cannot know Divine Spirit! You must meditate on OM to experience the truth of your existence for yourself. If Krishna, Buddha, and Jesus were here, writing this blog, this is exactly what they would write as well, must surely. Namaste and OM Shanti, Keith

Hi Keith,
Nice! In duality, one cannot exist without its opposite. So, if you dissolve one, the other dissolves automatically!
Thanks,
Desika
